Pleasant Hill offers small town comforts and big city conveniences. The town is close to all parts in Des Moines through U.S. Highway 65 and Iowa Highway 163. Pleasant Hill stretches along University Avenue, the central thoroughfare in Des Moines. More than 6,000 people make their home within the city limits.
There are many parks in Pleasant Hill, the largest being the 58-acre Copper Creek Lake Park. The park connects with the Four Mile Creek Greenway Trail system, and encircles the lake, which is stocked with fish. The Copper Creek area also has an 18-hole golf course, Cinema Multiplex and many retail shops.
Pleasant Hill is home to enjoyable events and celebrations. The biggest is the Iowa State Fair, every August, just down the road from Pleasant Hill. Every September, on the shores of Copper Creek Lake, there is The Labor Day Festival, an old-fashioned celebration with music and events for kids. In December of each year, residents of Pleasant Hill dress-up their homes for The Hill of Lights celebration. And every summer you can enjoy the nearby Adventureland amusement park and Prairie Meadows racetrack.
There are many excellent restaurants and retail establishments in the Copper Creek area, and along University Avenue. Altoona, which is close by, offers additional shopping and recreational opportunities.
Pleasant Hill is also true to its name. There is a large hill and several smaller hills. And the people are pleasant.
